Ruby, like other gemstones, is becoming a more popular choice for engagement rings and other jewellery. Ruby can be an eye-catching alternative to a more traditional diamond as the ring’s main stone because of its vivid colour and stunning appearance.

Types of Ruby

Ruby is found in a variety of forms and red colours and come from all over the world. Most rubies are assessed on various parameters to label their ruby price according to their quality. One such parameter is the origin of rubies from where they are mined. The following are examples of common types of ruby origin.

The highest grade rubies receive the highest ruby price. As a scale of assessment Pigeon Blood rubies are the kind of rubies that are especially expensive and sought after. The colour of these rubies is brilliant red with a little purple tint. When seen under a light source, they appear to have a deep red hue.

Burmese rubies

Burmese rubies, also known as Myanmar rubies, are often considered to be among the most valuable in the world. These have a striking deep red hue that is often denoted as Pigeon Blood and makes them stick out. Due to their remarkable colour and clarity, they fetch the highest ruby price in the market.

African rubies

African rubies, such as those from Kenya and Mozambique, are dark red or red-purple in hue. The rich, unusual hue of dark red African rubies makes them attractive and coveted.

Thai rubies

Thai rubies have a deeper but less intense colour than Burmese rubies. They are typically considered second in quality as they are artificially enhanced and hence unusable for astrological purposes.

Conclusion

Although purchasing rubies isn’t quite as complex as purchasing a diamond, there are still a few things to consider. Very high-end rubies can be far more expensive — in some circumstances, as much as or more than diamonds of comparable size. For example, a magnificent Pigeon Blood ruby of 1 carat from Burma can cost more than INR 100,000, which is comparable to the cost of a huge, oval-shaped diamond.

On average, the ruby price can range anywhere from INR 500 to INR 300,000 depending on its colour quality that is heavily influenced by the origin. Visit Gem Selections for more information.
